MALAGA AIRPORT WITH THE NEW 2nd RUNWAY DUE TO OPEN IN MARCH 2012
Malaga will have its second runway operational in March 2012, allowing the doubling of its capacity and ensures the future growth of its facilities. With an investment of 550 million Euros, the so-called Malaga Plan, has spent 1,600 million Euros in 10 years expanding airport facilities and the related transport system. The second runway has new signage and markings, which will help guide aircraft on takeoff and landing. The commissioning of the second runway for Flights to Malaga will differentiate the take off and landing operations, so that depending on the wind, each one will be focusing on one type of operation. For that purpose there are areas for the aircraft to connect to the existing facilities. The runway length is 2,750 meters, to which can be added an additional 340 meters, as an aid to take off and allows the use of next-generation aircraft with more capacity and weight.
